Hello World...

This blog, the third or fourth (I lose count) that I've published through blogspot thus far, is to be documentation of my resolution for 2012: Not to eat better, not to exercise more, not to live a more virtuous life in any such way as sanctioned by the powers that be... But rather, to give one full listen to, at least once in the coming year, every last entry in Rolling Stone's Five Hundred Greatest Albums of All Time. I'll be doing this mostly through Spotify. Some of the better ones that I don't already have, I'll download on iTunes, but at the very least each one will get a listen. This is my pledge. I invite you all to follow along, to offer suggestions, to give support, to make snarky comments, to hurl criticism, to contribute the occasional dirty joke, or to just shut the hell up and listen...

Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Love,
Tommy

  1. Great idea Tommy! This is a fun resolution, which I guess is the point. So are you insisting on actually owning all of these titles? Not to spoil the hunt, but you can listen to all of the titles easily and for free on Spotify, and save them in a playlist(s). You can also publish these playlists for your friends via Spotify/Facebook with reviews written in the description box, which would be cool. That way, you do not have to physically aquire the titles you don't like that much, but are obligated to listen to one time as per your resolution. And are you going 100% download or a mix of vinyl and CD as well?
I say you should host listening parties at a local pub every other week or something. I'm there for the Nick Drake/David Bowie/Velvet Underground night!I just went and checked out the list, there IS a lot of stuff I never heard before that would be super cool to check out... Good luck on this hefty endevour...

  2. Thanks! Yeah, Spotify is going to figure heavily into this project. I don't really need actual hard copies (I do live in a small apartment, storing 'em is kind of an issue), but I'd like to have at least an MP3 of each one, stashed away on my external drive. I think if I subscribe to Spotify, I can download them directly into my iTunes.
