#493: Oh, Yeah...
Haven't heard this one in a while... Recorded in Nederland, CO, Earth Wind & Fire's debut album spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard pop chart and spawned the number one single "Shining Star." In his review of this record, Robert Christgau said of EWF, "This unit can do so many things it qualifies as the one-man band of black music even though it has nine members."
Some other thoughts:
#496, Kiss' Destroyer: Why, why, why, did they record "Beth"? It's just a spectacularly bad song. Otherwise, a decent enough record. Hey, who doesn't love "Detroit Rock City"?
#495, Husker Du's New Day Rising: Zen Arcade's a better record, but this one holds up surprisingly well.
#494, Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual: Opens strong with "Money Changes Everything," then falls on its face with "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Recovers a bit in the ensuing tracks, but... Meh.
